Photography Pt 6

Here’s a couple of shots I took from strolling in the park just before the brief bout of snow we encountered quite recently.

I love the way the flower looks all frosted and wintery, mind you it was pretty baltic that morning.

And finally I will leave you with a shot which I quite like of Peppo, whilst he was   laying down some ivory in the home studio one afternoon.

Photography (Part 4)

By now im quite sure you will have most certainly got the hang of what your doing (with your camera) and what kind of stuff you enjoy shooting. I’ve been trying more often to go to busy little spots that I feel are kind of special.

One of those for me would be walking through Camden Market on a saturday just seeing whats happening. I know Camden Market doesnt really sound all that exciting but for me when taking photos its absolutely perfect with sheer diversity in the area. You can go from one end of the spectrum to the other in the blink of an eye or the turn of a corner. Here’s a shot I took on one of those very outings for a “ahem” cheeky chinese.

PHOTOGRAPHY (PART 3)

Ahoy there, photographites!

May I wish you all a very Happy New Year and welcome back for the third instalment of my so called PhotoBlog.

I’ve always had a bit of a penchant per se for trying to snap shots of twinkling lights and so forth. I have found they add a kind of warmth to a shot – this explains why controlled lighting is always used in proper photo shoots. That way the photographer can see the shot beforehand and tailor the lighting to his needs to achieve the shot.

I took this in a small ale house while back in Dublin over the Christmas period. It is only taken on an iPhone as my camera was out of action due to a battery issue – bloody batteries! – but still gets the desired effect.

Here are two shots I took from a short tea and biscuits break during a rehearsal before heading back to Ireland for a brief tour.

In the first of these shots I love the way the black and white squares open it up and soften it at the same time. I found the use of black and white shots on the day to be the best as the lighting in the room itself is fantastic. It cast some beautiful shadows that brought the shots to life, as seen in the second one of Ross tipping his cowboy hat which we found in a cupboard.

Keep snapping!

PHOTOGRAPHY (PART 2)

So I’m back for another natter about the world of photography. Well I haven’t really got anything new to hopefully inspire you with, but I do have a couple more photos which I took myself in various places and I have to admit I’m quite pleased with them.

First off is a photo of the coastline near my very own hometown. I took this shot in Killiney one day when coming back from the city centre via the DART line (basically a train :0) ).

For a lot of people this shot might not mean anything but it just reminds me of coming home and times spent on the beach with friends, etc. over the years. It’s still a beautiful spot.

Next up we have a shot I took from a trip to Thailand with friends. Just after arriving on the super stunning Island of Phi Phi, I spotted this bunch of boats and thought this could end up being something like a card you’d find in a lot of newsagents.

Finally I have two shots that I think may help people get some kind of scale to their photos, well at least that’s what I can think they can portray.

First up is a shot from Regent’s Park in London. It was around the time of that serious snow from last year; I was walking in the park and could not get over the way the frost had settled on everything. I spotted this bush and decided to try get a shot along the hedge line. The background is a little weak for my liking but it’s the way all the leaves almost seem illuminated from the frost that does it for me.

And lastly we have this shot I took of Rocky one day. I have always been a fan of shots with something in the foreground being out of focus – there’s just something cool about this that makes the shot seem like it’s a secretive thing you’re being allowed to see in a strange sort of way.
